Lladro Collectibles
By Wendy | May 12, 2008
Lladro Collectibles are high quality porcelain figurines that are produced by a Spanish company called Lladro Commercial. The company is based in Tavernes Blanques, Valencia. The company was founded in 1953 by the Lladro brothers: Juan, José and Vicente. The first three years that the company was in existence, they concentrated on the production of items such as vases and jugs. It wasn’t until 1956 that the sculptures now known as Lladro Collectibles came to be produced. Today, the company is still run by the Lladro family.
In 1962, the three Lladro brothers opened up a Professional Training School that would allow them to share their experience and knowledge about creating porcelain figurines and artefacts. This school is still up and running today, imparting the original visions and philosophies that the Lladro brothers had onto a new generation.
The exact manufacturing ingredients that go into creating Lladro Collectibles are kept heavily under wraps. Tour groups and individuals who visit the City of Porcelain will be able to see the complete process that goes into making these wonderful items. The City of Porcelain was opened in 1969, and is a purpose-designed area allowing artistic developments to be undertaken to their best and highest potential. It was built in the area of the original Lladro studios. Lladro Collectibles are made out of an originally blended mix of half-past porcelain. This is what gives the products their unique characteristics unseen in other models made out of porcelain. The ingredients of the glaze used to finish off the models are also a secret of the industry, and this also adds to the overall unique look of the Lladro Collectibles.
Each figurine is completely hand crafted and hand painted, meaning that no two Lladro Collectibles will ever be the same – your ornament will be unique from anyone else’s! This is something that those who collect the Lladro Collectibles cherish and hold dear to their hearts.
Lladro Collectibles are given two names – an original Spanish name, and an additional name in the English language, for sale out side of the country. These names are not usually translations – neither literal nor figurative – but are newly created names that will appeal more to an English speaking audience. The names given to the figurines may also change through their lifespan, which means that one collectible can end up with several different titles though out the years.
Lladro Collectibles have also made some appearances in popular culture! They’ve made appearances in episodes of Will and Grace and The Sopranos, amongst others, just going to show how popular these figurines are all over the globe. The porcelain figurines started by the Lladro brothers over fifty years ago have now become an institution of art and porcelain creation. Lladro collectibles are internationally famed and recognised in many countries for their uniqueness and impeccable quality that isn’t found in other porcelain figurines. The Lladro creates items that are truly a one of a kind and will be beautiful for a lifetime.
